Anmärkning: Innehållsbeskrivning, sammanfattning "Specimens of New Process Wood Type! was issued by the William H. Page Wood Type Company in 1890. The development of die-cut "new process wood type" was a response to competition from J. E. Hamilton's veneer Holly Wood Type, which was sold at a much lower cost than Page's traditional wood type cut by pantograph in end-grain maple. The "new process" proved to be short lived, because one year after this specimen was published William Page sold his wood type company to Hamilton in 1891. Hamilton incorporated all of Page's designs and equipment, and continued to sell the die-cut type until 1906, and the borders into the 1940s. This is the only specimen that shows all of Page's die-cut wood type and border designs. The specimen features 61 pages of wood type from Series 500 to 516 in all the sizes available. It also shows 26 pages of border designs, from Series 150 to 318 plus 511 and 512, as well as seven pages of ornaments from 400 to 410. This facsimile edition is reproduced at the same scale as the original, but slightly wider at 5″ x 7″ to allow for easier reading with a wider gutter margin. It includes a new introduction by Matthew Kelsey of Liber Apertus Press, which provides details of the competitive background in the wood type business in 1890, the technical process of die cutting from Page's patent filings, and the publication history of this specimen." -- From the publisher's website.
