Ulf Linde (1929-2013) was a major figure in Swedish cultural life for six decades. Yet until now few readers outside Scandinavia have been able to enjoy his lively intelligence and highly original voice. This first anthology in English spans the full range of his writings; texts on Swedish painters who deserve to be better known abroad; studies of Picasso, Matisse, Picabia, Giacometti, and other modern masters; and speculative theoretical texts, including his last and most ambitious essay, about the art of drawing. He played a key role in the early years of Moderna Museet, where in 1961 he made the first replica of Marcel Duchamp's Large Glass, approved and signed by the artist. He was co-curator of the Duchamp retrospective that opened the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 1977.Features an introduction by Ole Granath, distinguished former director of Moderna Museet and National Museum, Stockholm.
