  • Baldessari's cinema works primarily on the spectator's space and opens up the movie-making field to other language forms, to other story telling procedures. The films no longer progresses through a linear form but rather through a succession of a near still, suspended, photographic moment. "Script" is all about repetition. Seven couples play in turn the same ten sequences taken from different Hollywood scenarios. Each couple is unaware the others' interpretations. The film is split into four parts: firstly the progression of the written script, then the entire performance of each team, followed by the repetition of these same performances according to a grouping by scene and finally the selection of the ten best sequences. The actors are non professionals (his students) and the artist has stated on that subject that he wanted to avoid directing them in order to preserve the vitality and autonomy of each individual.
