The tree, that organic entity most adored, contemplated, used, protected, destroyed and worked by man, is here photographed by one of its most sensitive portraitists. Stuart Franklin has patiently searched for trees across the continents, and his photographs invite us to reflect upon the relationship--at times fertile, at times dramatic and contradictory--between man and his habitat.
