In his most recent work, Erik Schmidt has captured through painting, photographs, and video the last remnants of the noble class as they hunt the last of Germany's wild game. The hunter becomes the hunted. For all involved it takes the game to a new level. The different forms of representation in Hunting Grounds not only elucidate the social and symbolic consequences of hunting, but also track our enduring fascination for this archaic, male-dominated world.
