Prepared in conjunction with a 1994-95 exhibition organized by Tate Gallery, Liverpool and the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto. Despite current interest in the contributions of women artists, sculptor Hepworth (1903-1975) has become less well-known since her death. Offering the opportunity to look afresh at a major British artist, this volume reasseses Hepworth's reputation in the light of attention recently paid to her contemporaries Ben Nicholson and Henry Moore, and presents sculptures and related works on paper from throughout her career, along with four critical essays, a summary biography, and a chronology of public commissions.
