  • The Flicker by Tony Conrad (1966 ; 30 min.). DreaMinimalist by Marie Losier (2008 ; 26 min.).
  • The making of the Flicker was particularly influenced by two specific periods in Conrad's life: the first being his time studying neurophysiology and neuroanatomy at Harvard - where he became familiar with fields such as flicker fusion frequency and electronic intracerebral stimulation - and the second being his development in minimalist music, at the beginning of the 1960s, with La Monte Young at the heart of The Theatre of Eternal Music ; a group which also included John Cale, Marian Zazeela and Angus MacLise. However, when examining his work in a more general manner, one cannot neglect the influence of the environment in which Conrad developed after his arrival in New York at the end of the 50s: the development of the Fluxus, of Op Art, the beginnings of the psychedelic movement - to which Conrad seems to make a reference in The Flicker by introducing his name and the title of the film in a strange script.
  • In DreMinimalist Marie Losier examines the private life of Tony Conrad. His house, his belongings and his body are shown through the use of various techiques ranging from fixed frontal shots to handheld shots, full of unusual viewpoints and moments. Through this organized, sweet cacophony of the visual and the soundtrack runs a unifying thread: the voice of the protagonist. This voice comes from pre-recorded interviews from which Marie Losier selected certain elements to construct the film. One of the peculiarities of the work is that this construction is created using the personality of Conrad himself, in his house or in his studio, and filmed with limited resources. Conrad acts out the comedy of his own life in such a way as to detach us from reality and insert us into a world of pure wonder where humor is king.
