Between 1957 and 1964 the Conservative governments of Harold Macmillan and Sir Alec Douglas-Home presided over a short but key period in 20th-century British history. During this period the British Empire was transformed into a multi-racial Commonwealth. This title examines the end of the empire during its climactic phase and aims to provide a closer understanding of the dynamics involved in decolonization.
